Shawnie Hamer is a writer, editor, artist, curriculum designer, and teacher. She earned her Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing and Poetics from Naropa University, and her Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Creative Writing from Southern New Hampshire University.
Shawnie is an American poet currently living and creating in France. Her first book, the stove is off at home (Spuyten Duyil, 2018), is an experimental art and poetry book based on (and curated through) a community ritual that focused on the identification and exorcism of trauma.
She has worked as a freelance writer and editor for six years, and as an adjunct professor for four years, teaching and developing curriculum for the following classes: English, English Composition, Poetry, Community Writing Engagement, Literature, and Creative Writing. In addition, she has created and facilitated poetry workshops at the Gateway Battered Women's shelter in Aurora, CO, as well as a children's art workshop at the Abbot Hall Art Gallery in Kendal, UK.
Shawnie is the founder of collective.aporia, an international arts collective operating as an online arts platform and press. She has four years of experience working in arts administration, including faculty liaison experience, panel organization, curriculum design, and office management. She was also the editor in chief for two literary publications.
